Created out of emergency resulting from Hurricane Hugo in 1989, James Island Outreach (JIO), was the primary result of area churches coming together to help those who had nowhere else to turn.
Now, in coordination with area public and private human service agencies, JIO, through volunteers and two part-time staff members, provides crisis relief and on-going assistance in the areas of:
- Emergency food and medicines
- Utility and rent assistance
- Information and referral
JIO, a non-profit, tax exempt agency, is supported through donations of time, food, and funds by area churches, businesses civic organizations, and individuals.
