Audio / Visual Team
🎬🔊 Volunteers Needed for Audio/Visual Support! 📹🔊
Attention all tech-savvy individuals! The Audio/Visual Team is seeking volunteers to help fill a crucial three-week gap this Spring. From Sunday, April 21st to Sunday, May 5th, our Sunday services will require A/V support for both Sound and Online Streaming.
Did you know that our online streaming viewers represent a significant 10% of our typical Sunday attendance? At Saint James, we cherish every member of our congregation, including those unable to attend in person due to illness, travel, or family emergencies. By volunteering with our A/V Team, you’ll ensure that these valued members can still participate in our worship services.
No prior experience is necessary—all training will be provided! Simply reach out to Bill Read today to sign up and secure your spot. Don’t miss this opportunity to make a meaningful impact and help keep our community connected.

Sound Support Team
Joining the Sound Support team doesn’t demand a wealth of sound expertise. You just need to grasp some basics about operating the soundboard and the accompanying iPad. The job is straightforward, mainly involving tasks like muting or unmuting microphones as required and adjusting microphone volumes. The real challenge lies in staying attuned to the worship’s rhythm—keeping an eye out for transitions during the service to ensure that choir mics, the lectern mic, or the clergy mics are activated or deactivated at the appropriate moments.
There’s a whole world of additional knowledge waiting for you, like mastering the art of adding new equipment, setting up channels, adjusting levels, and assigning them to custom “Boards” on the iPad. While these skills aren’t frequently utilized, they come in handy when there’s a need to shake up the band or stage setup.
Online Streaming Team
The Online Streaming position is perfect for someone ready to dive into a bit of tech know-how. You’ll be learning how to handle three cameras using a control panel equipped with a joystick and buttons for zooming and panning. Plus, you’ll get the hang of using the broadcasting computer, which lets you effortlessly switch between camera views for the stream. It’s all about getting comfortable with the gear and enjoying the process of bringing a smooth and engaging stream to life!
If you’re comfortable navigating a computer, open to learning new things, and can stay focused on the task at hand, then you’re more than capable of handling this job.
The challenge in this role lies in keeping up with the flow of events during the service. It involves smoothly moving and adjusting one of the three off-screen cameras to set up the next shot before switching to it on-screen. For instance, at the beginning of the service, the main focus is usually on the front of the stage, so we use the center camera. However, when it’s time for readings or lessons, we switch to the left camera because the columns block the center camera’s view of the lectern. It’s all about anticipating these changes and ensuring a seamless viewing experience for the audience.
Mastering this role involves skillfully composing each camera shot to immerse viewers in the live stream experience. It entails adjusting camera angles strategically, especially during segments where the focus narrows down to specific areas. Wide shots can create a sense of detachment, while close-ups draw viewers into the heart of the sanctuary, enhancing their connection to the worship, sermon, or prayers. Essentially, the camera operator is always poised to capture the next compelling shot, whether it entails seamlessly transitioning between cameras or adjusting perspectives to maintain viewer engagement.
